The Board & Management

The board of Legacy Iron Ore has demonstrated commercial experience with the ability to drive innovative exploration programs, matched with effective cost-efficiency. The board has experience in commercialising large scale iron ore projects including assets for production and divestment.

 

  • Narendra Kumar Nanda
    Non-Executive Chairman

Shri Narendra Kumar Nanda has been Director Technical of NMDC Ltd since December 2008. He was Chairman cum Managing Director from January 2012 to 25 May 2012.

Shri. Nanda has approximately 27 years of experience in the field of mining. Prior to being appointed on the Board of NMDC, Shri. Nanda was also associated with Hindustan Copper Limited. He joined NMDC as Deputy Mining Engineer in the year 1989 and has served in various positions such as Statutory Mines Manager and General Manager-Head of the project. He has been a Director of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited since January 25, 2010 and NMDC Limited since December 1, 2008. He has been posted as Project Manager, Donimalai in 2006 and promoted as General Manager in 2007.During this period he implemented new technology like high rate thickener and Distribution Control System (DCS) in process plant.

Shri Nanda has received a Certificate of Recognition as Qualified Person to prepare Mining Plans from Indian Bureau of Mines and possesses a 1st Class Competency Certificate to manage multifarious open cast mines issued by the Director General of Mine Safety, Dhanbad. He is a fellow member of the Institution of Engineers (India), a fellow member of the Mining Engineers Association of India and a Council Member of the Mining Engineers Association of India. Shri. Nanda holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mining with a 1st Division from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad and a Master's Degree in Mining from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

 

  • Mr Rakesh Gupta
    Chief Executive Officer

Mr Gupta is an experienced mining engineer with a high level of engineering and project management skills acquired within both national and international settings and various commodities and sizes.

From 2011 to prior to joining the Company, Mr Gupta worked at BHP Billiton Iron Ore in mine planning, and has performed a key role in future mine strategic replacement projects and in the development of the life of asset plans for corporate alignment process, including being responsible for framing the case scenarios and development of the current and future iron ore mine plans.

Mr Gupta also brings with him significant skills in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, having worked at AMEC Minproc and SRK Consulting for several years, including assisting FMG (Iron ore Project) in the preparation of its long term strategic mine plan for the Chichester 90 mtpa (Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek operation), and he also worked for Barrick Gold, Australia for a brief period.

From 2003 to 2006 he served Ararat Gold Recovery Company, Armenia as a Technical Services Manager.

 

  • Timothy Turner
  • BBus (Acc), FTIA, FCPA
    Non-Executive Director

A senior partner with accounting firm Hewitt Turner and Gelevits, Timothy Turner specialises in mergers / acquisitions, corporate tax structuring, due diligence reporting, new ventures and business development consulting.

He is also a registered company auditor and a fellow of both CPA Australia and the Taxation Institute of Australia with more than 25years experience in management and business advisory.
 
Timothy is currently non-executive director of Cape Lambert Resources Limited, International Petroleum Limited and African Petroleum Corporation Limited. All three companies are listed on either the ASX or NSX. 

  • Mr Devanathan Ramachandran
    Non-Executive Director

Mr Ramachandran has approximately 30 years of wide-ranging experience in global mining and fertilizer industries. He has acquired hands-on business expertise across a variety of mineral commodities and cultures working in corporate, technical and operational roles in global leaders such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Vale.

Holding extensive business development experience ranging from identification and evaluation of investment opportunities through due diligence and post-merger integration, Mr Ramachandran has a proven track record in large investments in mining and fertilizer industries often with significant rail, port, power and other infrastructure.

Significant achievements of Mr Ramachandran include his work on Rio Tinto's acquisition and integration of North Ltd ($3.5b), and Vale's acquisition, integration and optimization of Fosfertil ($8bn).

 

  • Mr Devinder Singh Ahluwalia
    Non-Executive Director

Mr Ahluwalia is the current Director (Finance) of NMDC Limited, Legacy Iron's largest shareholder, and holds a bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Delhi University and is also a Cost Accountant.

Prior to assuming the role of Director (Finance) at NMDC, Mr Ahluwalia was the Executive Director (Finance) at Rural Electrification Corporation Limited in India and worked on the appraisal, financing and monitoring of numerous power projects, resource mobilisation, treasury management functions and ALM functions.

Mr Ahluwalia has extensive experience in accounting, taxation and commercial transactions also.

 

  • Dr Tanugula Rama Kishan Rao
    Non-Executive Director

Dr Tanugula Rama Kishan Rao is the current Director (Commercial) of NMDC Limited.

 

  • Ben Donovan
  • B.Comm (Hons)
    Company Secretary

Mr Donovan, is a member of Chartered Secretaries Australia and provides corporate advisory and consultancy services to a number of companies.

Mr Donovan is currently a director and company secretary of several ASX listed and public unlisted companies, and has extensive experience in listing rules compliance and corporate governance, having served as a Senior Adviser at the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in Perth, including as a member of the ASX JORC Committee.

In addition, Mr Donovan has experience in the capital markets having raised capital and assisted numerous companies on achieving a listing on ASX, as well as a period of time as a private client adviser at a boutique stockbroking group.
