Mr Amitava Mukherjee
Non-Executive Chairman
Mr. Amitava Mukherjee currently serves as Chairman-Cum-Managing Director of NMDC Limited. A visionary and futuristic leader, he is driving the digital transformation of India’s mining major. Spearheading the implementation of ERP, he led NMDC to become the first CPSE in India to implement ERP on the SAP S4/HANA platform. In his tenure as Director (Finance) of NMDC, the Company has recorded the best ever financial performance in company history with sky high Turnover, Profit Before Tax and Profit After Tax in FY22. Under his stewardship the demerger of NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) from NMDC was completed in a time bound manner. In February 2023, NSL was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of AUD 1.93 B. With project management, digital initiatives, and policy formulation as his forte, he is also leading the Australia operations of NMDC.
Mr. Amitava Mukherjee belongs to the 1995 batch of Indian Railway Accounts Services (IRAS) and is a Cost Accountant. He has a Master of Commerce Degree from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur. In 2018, he joined NMDC as Director (Finance). Prior to joining NMDC, he was General Manager (Finance) in Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for three years. During his service in IRAS from 1997-2016, he held key positions in the Eastern Railways and received the National Award for Outstanding Services in 2006. Before joining IRAS, he worked at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) from 1994-1997. Mr. Amitava Mukherjee was awarded the ‘FE CFO of the Year Award’ by Financial Express for the year 2022 in the Large Industry-Manufacturing Category, making NMDC the only PSU to be awarded with this honour. Taking us from strength to strength, Mr. Amitava Mukherjee is playing a historic role in building NMDC 2.0.
Dr. Ranajit Das
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Ranajit Das, MAusIMM (CP – Mining), brings over 30 years of international experience in the mining industry, spanning operational leadership, strategic mine planning, feasibility studies, and technology integration across Australia, Chile, and India. He was appointed CEO of Legacy Iron Ore Ltd following a long and distinguished career leading mining projects and consulting assignments in iron ore, coal, phosphate, and other commodities.
Prior to joining Legacy Iron, Dr. Das served as Principal Mining Engineer – LOM Projects at Incitec Pivot Ltd, where he was instrumental in developing long-term strategic plans and reserve expansion projects. Earlier, as Senior Mining Consultant at Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA, he led technical optimisation and mine planning projects for clients across more than a dozen countries.
Dr. Das served as Head of Mining (Jefe Mina) at Santa Fe Mining in Chile, where he managed all facets of a large-scale magnetite operation from greenfield development through to full-scale production. His leadership extended to managing feasibility studies, mine contracts, and operational performance at an 11 Mtpa iron ore excavation. He also played a critical role in the development of a lignite mining project in India and worked for over a decade in the raw materials division of a major steel producer in India – SAIL, contributing to mine logistics, operations, and MIS systems.
Dr. Das holds a PhD in mine scheduling optimisation from Curtin University, an MBA from Calcutta University, and both Masters and Bachelor degrees in Mining Engineering from the Indian School of Mines. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed papers and delivered keynote presentations at leading international mining forums.
Mr Ross Oliver
Non-Executive Director
Mr. Oliver has over 40 years of experience in the mining industry including over 30 years in senior technical roles across a broad range of projects including significant experience in project reviews as an owner and consultant with major mining and engineering companies.
He brings a wide range of project experience in the review and audit of projects and studies to optimise and maximise the value requirements of the project stakeholders.
Mr Oliver is the Principal Consultant of OreWin since 2015 which provides mining and exploration consulting services.
Prior to that, he was Group Manager Technical Services at Fortescue Metals Group from 2010 – 2014, and Manager Mining & Geology at GRD Minpoc/AMEC from 1998 – 2010.
Mr Vinay Kumar
Non-Executive Director
Mr. Vinay Kumar, A Mining Engineering B. Tech. from IIT BHU in the year 1988-1992, is currently holding the post of Director (Technical) at NMDC Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Steel (Govt. of India). He is having an experience of more than 3 decades in Mining and Metal Industry.
Prior to the role of Director (Technical), he was Chief General Manager (CGM) and immensely contributed as the Project Head of BIOM Kirandul Complex, Chhattisgarh with a production capacity of 19 MTPA of iron ore. He also played a key role in the construction and commissioning of NMDC’s Kumaraswamy Mines in Karnataka, gaining a reputation for solving critical issues in Mine Development and Project Execution. Under the leadership of Shri Vinay Kumar, Kirandul Complex received 5-star rating by IBM and various awards from prestigious organizations in the field of Safety, Environment, CSR and Occupational Health.
Under his leadership, the major ongoing projects of NMDC are being implemented like Slurry Pipeline Project, Screening Plant-III, New Crushing Plant of Deposit 14 & 11C and Downhill Conveyor System, additional Screening Lines in Bacheli, Rapid Wagon Loading System (RWLS) etc. These are very important projects towards enhancing the production and evacuation capacity of NMDC and for reaching the goal as per National Steel Policy 2017. His supervision and guidance led to commissioning of the prestigious Steel Plant of 3MTPA at Nagarnar which is located in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
Apart from his professional pursuit, he is also directly or indirectly involved in various Organizations/Association related to Mining & Metal.
He has gained vast experience of new technology used in mining industry across the world, by visiting and involving himself deeply to the technological development.
Joydeep Dasgupta
Non-Executive Director
Mr. Joydeep Dasgupta, an Electrical Engineering graduate from BIT-Sindri, has built an illustrious career spanning over three decades in the mining and steel industry. He began his professional journey in 1991 as a Management Trainee at SAIL’s Raw Materials Division and steadily progressed to key leadership positions, including his most recent role as Executive Director (Mines) at SAIL.
During his 27-year tenure at RMD Mines, Mr. Dasgupta managed critical functions such as maintenance, operations, and material handling plants. Mr. Dasgupta also served as the CEO of International Coal Ventures Pvt. Ltd. (ICVL), where he oversaw the operation of coal mining assets in Mozambique.
Under his leadership, ICVL ensured the seamless supply of coking and thermal coal to Indian promoter companies. His global exposure includes specialized technical training in Austria and participation in the Advanced Global Techno-Management Program at ESCP, Paris.
Mr. Dasgupta has also represented India in international delegations to Russia and Siberia, exploring alternative sources for coking coal & PCI.
Ben Donovan – B.Comm (Hons), ACG (CS)
Non-Executive Director and Company Secretary
Mr Donovan is the principal director of Argus Corporate Partners Pty Ltd, which provides company secretary,finance, IPO and governance advice. He is a member of the Governance Institute of Australia and is currently company secretary of several ASX listed and public unlisted companies and has gained experience across resources, agritech, biotech, media and technology industries.
He has extensive experience in listing rules compliance and corporate governance, having served as a Senior Adviser at the ASX in Perth for nearly 3 years, where he managed the listing of nearly 100 companies on the ASX.
In addition, Mr Donovan has experience in the capital markets having raised capital and assisted numerous companies on achieving an initial listing on the ASX, as well as for a period of time, as a private client adviser at a boutique stockbroking group.
