The board of Legacy Iron Ore has demonstrated commercial experience with the ability to drive innovative exploration programs, matched with effective cost-efficiency. The board has experience in commercialising large scale iron ore projects including assets for production and divestment.


Mr Amitava Mukherjee
Non-Executive Chairman

Mr. Amitava Mukherjee currently serves as Chairman-Cum-Managing Director (Additional Charge) and the Director (Finance) of NMDC Limited. A visionary and futuristic leader, he is driving the digital transformation of India’s mining major. Spearheading the implementation of ERP, he led NMDC to become the first CPSE in India to implement ERP on the SAP S4/HANA platform. In his tenure as Director (Finance), NMDC has recorded the best ever financial performance in company history with sky high Turnover, Profit Before Tax and Profit After Tax in FY22. Under his stewardship the demerger of NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) from NMDC was completed in a time bound manner. In February 2023, NSL was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of AUD 1.93 B. With project management, digital initiatives, and policy formulation as his forte, he is also leading the Australia operations of NMDC. 

Mr. Amitava Mukherjee belongs to the 1995 batch of Indian Railway Accounts Services (IRAS) and is a Cost Accountant. He has a Master of Commerce Degree from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur. In 2018, he joined NMDC as Director (Finance). Prior to joining NMDC, he was General Manager (Finance) in Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for three years. During his service in IRAS from 1997-2016, he held key positions in the Eastern Railways and received the National Award for Outstanding Services in 2006. Before joining IRAS, he worked at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) from 1994-1997. Mr. Amitava Mukherjee was awarded the ‘FE CFO of the Year Award’ by Financial Express for the year 2022 in the Large Industry-Manufacturing Category, making NMDC the only PSU to be awarded with this honour. Taking us from strength to strength, Mr. Amitava Mukherjee is playing a historic role in building NMDC 2.0.


Mr Rakesh Gupta
Chief Executive Officer and Director

Mr Gupta is an experienced mining engineer with a high level of engineering and project management skills acquired within both national and international settings and various commodities and sizes.

From 2011 to prior to joining the Company, Mr Gupta worked at BHP Billiton Iron Ore in mine planning, and has performed a key role in future mine strategic replacement projects and in the development of the life of asset plans for corporate alignment process, including being responsible for framing the case scenarios and development of the current and future iron ore mine plans.

Mr Gupta also brings with him significant skills in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, having worked at AMEC Minproc and SRK Consulting for several years, including assisting FMG (Iron ore Project) in the preparation of its long term strategic mine plan for the Chichester 90 mtpa (Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek operation), and he also worked for Barrick Gold, Australia for a brief period.

From 2003 to 2006 he served Ararat Gold Recovery Company, Armenia as a Technical Services Manager.


Mr Devanathan Ramachandrana
Non-Executive Director

Mr Ramachandran has approximately 30 years of wide-ranging experience in global mining and fertilizer industries. He has acquired hands-on business expertise across a variety of mineral commodities and cultures working in corporate, technical and operational roles in global leaders such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Vale.

Holding extensive business development experience ranging from identification and evaluation of investment opportunities through due diligence and postmerger integration, Mr Ramachandran has a proven track record in large investments in mining and fertilizer industries often with significant rail, port, power and other infrastructure.

Significant achievements of Mr Ramachandran include his work on Rio Tinto’s acquisition and integration of North Ltd ($3.5b), and Vale’s acquisition, integration and optimization of Fosfertil ($8bn).


Mr Viswanath Suresh
Non-Executive Director

Mr Suresh currently serves as Director (Commercial) at NMDC Limited from March 1 2023.

Prior to this appointment, has held the role of functional director on the board of NMDC Limited, and has previously been Executive Director (Coal Import) at Steel Authority of India and responsible for procuring over 15 MTPA of imported coal.

He also held additional charge of Executive Director (Corporate Materials Management) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

Mr. Suresh has experience in sales and marketing of steel in domestic and international markets, procurement, strategic management and policy.


Mr Vinay Kumar
Non-Executive Director

Mr. Vinay Kumar, A Mining Engineering B. Tech. from IIT BHU in the year 1988-1992, is currently holding the post of Director (Technical) at NMDC Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Steel (Govt. of India). He is having an experience of more than 3 decades in Mining and Metal Industry.

Prior to the role of Director (Technical), he was Chief General Manager (CGM) and immensely contributed as the Project Head of BIOM Kirandul Complex, Chhattisgarh with a production capacity of 19 MTPA of iron ore. He also played a key role in the construction and commissioning of NMDC’s Kumaraswamy Mines in Karnataka, gaining a reputation for solving critical issues in Mine Development and Project Execution. Under the leadership of Shri Vinay Kumar, Kirandul Complex received 5-star rating by IBM and various awards from prestigious organizations in the field of Safety, Environment, CSR and Occupational Health.

Under his leadership, the major ongoing projects of NMDC are being implemented like Slurry Pipeline Project, Screening Plant-III, New Crushing Plant of Deposit 14 & 11C and Downhill Conveyor System, additional Screening Lines in Bacheli, Rapid Wagon Loading System (RWLS) etc. These are very important projects towards enhancing the production and evacuation capacity of NMDC and for reaching the goal as per National Steel Policy 2017. His supervision and guidance led to commissioning of the prestigious Steel Plant of 3MTPA at Nagarnar which is located in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Apart from his professional pursuit, he is also directly or indirectly involved in various Organizations/Association related to Mining & Metal.

He has gained vast experience of new technology used in mining industry across the world, by visiting and involving himself deeply to the technological development.


Ben Donovan – B.Comm (Hons), ACG (CS)
Company Secretary

Mr Donovan is a member of the Governance Institute of Australia and provides corporate advisory, IPO and consultancy services to a number of companies. Mr Donovan is currently a company secretary of several ASX listed and public unlisted companies and has gained experience across resources, agritech, biotech, media and technology industries.

He has extensive experience in listing rules compliance and corporate governance, having served as a Senior Adviser at the ASX in Perth for nearly 3 years, where he managed the listing of nearly 100 companies on the ASX.

In addition, Mr Donovan has experience in the capital markets having raised capital and assisted numerous companies on achieving an initial listing on the ASX, as well as for a period of time, as a private client adviser at a boutique stock broking group.
